Hader Still Drawing Interest

The Yankees are still showing interest in left-handed reliever Josh Hader according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Heyman notes that given the Brewers don’t have a clear starter at third base, that the Yankees could use Miguel Andujar as part of their package. Roster Resource currently has recent free agent signing Eric Sogard starting at third base for Milwaukee.

Hader, 25. is under team control through the 2023 season. He had a 2.62 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, 2.6 WAR, and a remarkable 138 strikeouts in 75 2/3 innings this past season for the Brewers.

Marlins Looking at Veteran Catcher

Heyman also reports that the Marlins are working on a deal to reunite catcher Francisco Cervelli with former teammate Derek Jeter.

Cervelli, 33, hit just .193/.279/.248 in 34 games to start the 2019 season with the Pirates after dealing with concussion issues. He was released by Pittsburgh in August and signed by the Braves two days later.

In 14 games for Atlanta, the former Yankee hit .281/.378/.688 in 37 plate appearances.

White Sox Not Done Yet?

The White Sox have been one of baseball’s most active teams this offseason signing catcher Yasmani Grandal, giving first baseman Jose Abreu an extension, acquired outfielder Nomar Mazara, signing left-handed starters Dallas Keuchel and Gio Gonzalez.

According to Bruce Levine of 670 The Score, the White Sox are showing interest in free agent slugger Edwin Encarnacion.

Encarnacion, 37, is one of the best bats left on the market. The right-handed hitting veteran slashed .244/.344/.531 with 18 doubles, 34 home runs, and 86 RBIs in 2019 between the Mariners and Yankees. He’s had eight straight seasons of at least 30 home runs and has a career 125 OPS+.

Blue Jays Hoping For Bounce Back

The Blue Jays signed infielder Travis Shaw according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network. The deal guarantees the left-handed hitter $4 million for the 2020 season and can max out at $4.675 million if all incentives are hit.

Shaw, 29, hit only .157/.281/.270 in 86 games for the Brewers in 2019. He did have back-to-back 30-homer seasons in 2017 and 2018, and had a combined 8.0 WAR during that span.
