Good morning, baseball fanatics! Tonight is the deadline for teams to add players to their 40-man rosters.

The first domino of the offseason has yet to fall on the trade and free agent front, but the rumors are still swirling.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB.com on Twitter, the St. Louis Cardinals have made a formal offer to the Miami Marlins for Giancarlo Stanton.

They are reportedly the second team to send Derek Jeter and crew an offer for the slugger’s services, with the San Francisco Giants also offering the Marlins a deal, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Buster Olney of ESPN adds that Miami needs to be realistic with their asking price.

An executive recently told Olney that they are “not going to find teams willing to give up both the money and the prospects, and that’s why [they’ll] probably have to choose: They can either take the talent and eat some of the money, or they’ll have to prioritize the [money] savings.”

Peter Gammons recently released a slew of rumors on his website GammonsDaily.com where he said there is an “industry consensus” that free agent righty Alex Cobb will land up with either the Chicago Cubs or New York Yankees.

A deal with Chicago would make sense as Cobb would be reunited with manager Joe Maddon and hitting coach Jim Hickey.

Other rumored suitors include the Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays.

The Atlanta Braves are reportedly expected to lose top prospect Kevin Maitan as a penalty for the team’s alleged violations of international and domestic amateur signing rules, a source close to the team told Gammons.

Maitan entered the season as a consensus top 100 prospect in all of baseball and is just 17-years-old.

According to Terry Pluto of Cleveland.com, a plethora of Indians drew trade interest at the GM meetings recently, including pitchers Carlos Carrasco, Trevor Bauer and Mike Clevinger as well as catcher Yan Gomes.
