The New York Yankees announced on Wednesday that they have activated right-hander Domingo German from the 10-day IL and that he will start against the New York Mets later in the day.

German, 26, has been on the IL since June 9 with a left hip flexor strain.

With German back, the Yankees will no longer have to use an opener in his place. That restores order to the rotation he will rejoin that includes James Paxton, C.C. Sabathia, J.A. Happ, and Masahiro Tanaka.

Prior to getting injured, German was 9-2 with a 3.86 ERA, 4.10 FIP, 1.114 WHIP, and 77 strikeouts in 70 innings pitched (12 starts, 13 appearances).

In turn, the Yankees optioned left-handed reliever Stephen Tarpley to Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre.

Tarpley, also 26, has made 11 appearances for the Yankees and even made a start against the Boston Red Sox as part of an opener this past weekend in London.

However, Tarpley has not been very effective as he allowed 10 runs, including four home runs, in 9 1/3 innings pitched. He also registered 12 strikeouts as compared to five walks.
