The White Sox announced on Thursday they’ve signed All-Star catcher Yasmani Grandal. The deal is four-years, $73 million, making it the largest contract in franchise history.

Grandal, 31, is one of the best offensive catchers in the game and an impressive defensive catcher, ranking No. 3 defensively by Baseball Prospectus, with his 20.1 FRAA being one of the best in the game.

The switch-hitter is coming off a big year for the Brewers after signing a one-year deal, he slashed .246/.380/.468 with 26 doubles, 28 home runs, and 77 RBI in 153 games. His 121 wRC+ ranked second among regular catchers and his 5.2 fWAR was second as well.

Grandal was in negotiations with the Mets last offseason that ultimately fell through. The Mets would instead sign Wilson Ramos to a two-year deal.
