The Washington Nationals and St.Louis Cardinals prevailed as the winner’s in Wednesday’s pair of Game 5’s after defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves, respectively.

Atlanta, who won the NL East with a 97-65 record, started off the night by giving up 10 runs in the first inning in what ended up being a 13-1 loss.

In the second and much more exciting game, the Washington Nationals came back from a 3-0 deficit with the help of back-to-back homers from Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto in the eighth inning off of Clayton Kershaw and a 10th inning grand slam by Howie Kendrick off of Joe Kelly in the 10th inning.

Los Angeles is now eliminated from the playoffs after being the NL Champion in each of the past two seasons. Their World Series drought extends another year with their most recent coming in 1988. The Nationals will now attempt to win their first World Series title.

There are now five teams still alive in the playoffs and that will reduce to four on Thursday night when the Houston Astros face off against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The NLCS starts on Friday night and the Cardinals will have home-field advantage.
