According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, the Washington Nationals have signed former Met T.J. Rivera to a minor league deal and assigned him to Double-A Harrisburg.

Rivera, 31 in October, was released by the Mets on March 9 after struggling to come back from a partially torn UCL and an elbow sprain he endured in the 2017 season.

After being cut by the Mets, Rivera signed with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League last month and played with them until his contract was purchased by Washington on Sunday.

For his career, Rivera is a .304/.335/.445 hitter with eight home runs and 43 RBI in 106 games played between 2016 and 2017.

The Bronx, New York native is perhaps best known for his 2016 campaign, where he played an integral role in the Mets securing the first wild card spot. This was topped off by a key home run against Mark Melancon in Washington late in the season that gave New York a much needed victory.

Rivera will join Harrisburg on Sunday and will be available to play.
