Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that Mickey Callaway is close to joining the Los Angeles Angels’ as their new pitching coach. However, the deal has not been finalized yet.

Callaway, 44, is returning to a role he was very familiar with before being named the Mets’ manager during the 2017 offseason. From 2013-2017, Callaway was the Cleveland Indians’ pitching coach.

During his two years as manager of the Mets, Callaway had a 163-161 record, with the team going 86-76 this past season.

Joe Maddon was announced as the new manager of the Los Angeles Angels last week and has now tabbed another former MLB manager as his pitching coach.

As noted by Nightengale, the Mets still owe Callaway $1.05 million this season due to the fact that he was signed to a three-year contract when initially hired.
