The Marlins are reportedly trading veteran center fielder Starling Marte to the A’s for left-handed pitcher Jesus Luzardo per Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Jeff Passan of ESPN notes that the Marlins are paying the entire of prorated portion of Marte’s $12.5 million contract for 2021.

Marte, 32, is having another fine season with a 136 OPS+ and 2.9 WAR in 63 games for the Marlins. The right-handed hitter has 11 doubles, seven home runs, and 22 stolen bases. He also has two defensive runs saved in center field.

The 23-year-old Luzardo has struggled to the tune of a 6.87 ERA this year for Oakland. However, he had a 4.12 ERA in 59 innings for the A’s in 2020 and is controlled through the 2026 season. Luzardo was a top 10 prospect in baseball before the start of the 2020 season.
