The Los Angeles Angels announced they’ve signed outfielder Justin Upton to a new five-year deal that keeps him with the Halos through 2022.

Upton, 30, had an opt-out clause that he could’ve used to become a free agent this offseason to walk way from four years, $88 million.

Upton’s new deal is worth $106 million with payouts of  $16M in 2018, $18M in 2019, $21M in 2020, $23M in 2021 and $28M in 2022 according to Buster Olney of ESPN.

The Angels traded for Upton this season on Aug. 31 when they sent two prospects to the Detroit Tigers. Upton hit .245/.357/.531 with seven doubles, seven home runs and 15 RBI in 27 games for the Angels.

Overall, he hit .273/.361/.540 with a career-high 44 doubles, 35 home runs and 109 RBI during the 2017 season. He is also a finalist for the Gold Glove award in left field.
