According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, Cubs manager Joe Maddon will not return for 2020.

Earlier today, Bob Nightengale of USA Today on Twitter, said Maddon has three potential landing spots this winter: with the Mets, Phillies or Padres. Nightengale adds that Maddon wants to manage for three to five more years.

Maddon, 65, had a brutal year with the Cubs, who earlier this month had a 75 percent chance to make the playoffs, and ultimately missed it as the Milwaukee Brewers leapfrogged them.

The Pennsylvania native has been in the game since the early ’90s when he served as a coach for the Angels from 1993-2005. He was their interim manager in 1996 and 1999, and was a coach on the 2002 World Series champion Angels team.

Maddon later served as the manager of the Tampa Bay Rays from 2006-14 before joining the Cubs as a manager in 2015.

The Cubs captured their first World Series title since 1908 in 2016 under Maddon’s reign.

Overall, Maddon has gone 1,252-1,067 as a manager in his career. He is also a three time Manager of the Year award winner.

There is much speculation that Mets manager Mickey Callaway will be relieved of his duties following the year. Some other names that have been linked to the Mets to potentially replace him are Joe Girardi, Astros bench coach Joe Espada, and in-house candidate Luis Rojas so far.
