According to a report from Robert Murray of The Athletic, Diamondbacks closer Greg Holland has been designated for assignment.

Holland, 33, got off to a strong start this season, posting a 2.33 ERA with a .151 opponents batting average through June 29. However, following a meltdown at Dodger Stadium where he completely lost his control, he’s struggled to an 11.42 ERA and .478 opponents OBP.

Holland’s 2019 campaign has gone the reverse of the way his 2018 campaign went, as he struggled badly to open the year with the Cardinals (7.92 ERA) but figured it out with the Nationals (0.84 ERA).

Despite an uneven last couple years, Holland still has a good track record of being a quality reliever. His most dominant seasons came with the Royals between 2011 and 2014, as he posted K/9 rates north of 12 and ERAs and FIPs south of 2.00.

While those days are likely behind him at this point, it still might not hurt to take a shot on him and see if he has anything left.
