Cleveland announced on Wednesday they’ve designated left-handed reliever Óliver Pérez for assignment to make room on the active roster for Nick Wittgren.

Pérez, still just 39, had not allowed an earned run yet this season in 3 2/3 innings. In that span, he allowed five hits, walked one, and struck out four.

The former Met has a 3.42 ERA and 10.8 K/9 over big leagues 350 innings since the Mets cut him in 2011. During that decade span, Perez has spent time with the Mariners, D’Backs, Nationals, Astros, and most recently with Cleveland.

Pérez and Joe Smith remain as the only active Mets that played in Shea Stadium. Recently, our own Robert Piersall did an excellent article about Ollie being the last 2006 Met standing.

The Mets currently have only one left-handed reliever on the active roster in Aaron Loup. Veteran lefty Jerry Blevins retired on Tuesday and fellow lefty Stephen Tarpley recently had a disastrous Mets debut.

Also on the 40-man roster, the Mets have lefties Daniel Zamora, Joey Lucchesi and Thomas Szapucki.

The Mets do have one open spot currently on the 40-man roster as well.
