Michael Cerami of Bleacher Nation was first on the report that the Chicago White Sox have acquired right-handed pitcher Craig Kimbrel from the Chicago Cubs.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Cubs will get second baseman Nick Madrigal and right-handed pitcher Codi Heuer.

Per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the White Sox are planning to give Kimbrel, along with Hendriks save opportunities, which they stated will help protect their starters and relievers. The White Sox also have an option to retain Kimbrel next season for $16 million.

Kimbrel has pitched in 39 games in 2021 with the Cubs and has a 2-3 record with a 0.49 ERA over the course of 36.2 innings pitched. Kimbrel has 64 strikeouts and has earned 23 saves.
