Today marks the 15th anniversary of Mike Piazza‘s most important home run.  In the first game back in New York after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, he hit a two-run home run off Steve Karsay to give the Mets a 3-2 lead:

The home run is often credited with helping New Yorkers, especially Mets fans, in the healing process after the unfathomable tragedy.  It is why there was a furor over the Mets having sold the jersey Piazza wore in the game he hit the home run.

The jersey was eventually purchased by a group of investors, notably Anthony Scaramucci, who wanted to ensure the jersey would forever be on display.  As Mr. Scaramucci told Mets Merized Online, the jersey was going to be rotated between Citi Field, the Baseball Hall of Fame, and the 9/11 Memorial.

For those interested in seeing the jersey on the anniversary of the home run, the jersey is being displayed today at the 9/11 Memorial.
