We are almost two weeks away from Opening Day and there is a great chance that one of the Mets best outfielders will not be ready for it.

Michael Conforto was diagnosed on Tuesday with a right oblique strain. Luckily, the oblique strain is the most mild type, Grade 1. However, there is no timeline set for his return or word as to if he will be ready for Opening Day.

According to The Record’s Justin Toscano, Conforto commented on the situation before Wednesday’s game.

“There’s no timeline right now. We’re going day by day. But what I will say is I feel very good right now.” Conforto said.

Well that’s good. What’s not good is if he is not ready for Opening Day. But, injuries shouldn’t be rushed — we all know what happens when it is. It’s important to make sure Conforto is fully healed before he gets out there. Something like this can easily be strained again if not recovered properly.

Conforto has not done any baseball activity since the injury but he has been able to do some work outs.

In 2019, Conforto hit .257/.363/.494 with a total of 33 home runs and 92 RBIs. The outfield will be lacking without him. His +7 OAA last season ranked third among all qualified MLB right fielders.

Since this is only a mild strain, it is safe to assume the Mets will not be looking outside the organization to replace him. Hopefully, Conforto is back to playing baseball sooner rather than later.
