The New York Mets announced on Wednesday afternoon they’ve optioned right-handed pitcher Corey Oswalt to minor league camp and re-assigned left-handed pitcher David Peterson and right-handed pitcher Pedro Payano to minor league camp.

Oswalt, 26, pitched well this spring allowing only one earned run in eight innings. In that span, he gave up eight hits, walked no one, and struck out six. Oswalt is on the 40-man roster and is likely slated to start the 2020 in the Triple-A Syracuse Mets rotation.

The 24-year-old Peterson had a nice showing this spring as well, giving up one earned run in six innings. The former first round pick allowed five hits, three walks, and struck out six. Big key for the tall lefty was his velocity being up a tick, he was hitting 93 and 94 MPH with regularity.

Like Oswalt, Peterson is expected to start the season in the Syracuse rotation.

Payano, 25, was signed to a minor league deal by the Mets during the offseason. He allowed three earned runs on six hits, five walks, and three strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings this spring. He worked exclusively as a reliever in Mets camp, after making four starts and two relief appearances for the Texas Rangers in 2019.

The Mets now have 46 players in big league camp.
