Despite the Mets promoting a write-in campaign for Michael Conforto to be elected as a starter for the All-Star Game, it appears the team’s efforts have yet to gain any traction.

With MLB publishing the first of what will be five ballot updates, Conforto is not listed among the Top 15 National League outfielders.

It’s not just Conforto who is lagging behind in All Star voting, it is the entire Mets team. No Mets player ranks in the Top 5 in any position. In fact, the highest ranked player among Mets is Yoenis Cespedes at ninth with Jay Bruce right behind him.

To be fair, it is not as if the Mets players on the ballot have earned the right to get voted into the All-Star Game. The entire team has either been injured, under-performed, or both. As a result, it is likely this will be a Mets team with no All-Star Game starters. It is also very likely, this will be a Mets team with just one All-Star in Conforto.

Of course, this is not any indication of any future success.  The 2015 Mets team that won the National League Pennant was only represented by Jacob deGrom.  Certainly, that had no impact on the Mets ability to compete that season.  In fact, it is possible the extra days of rest will benefit a largely veteran team.

Still, it will be exciting to see Conforto play in the first of what should be many All-Star Game appearances.  While the chances of him getting elected a starter are slim, Mets fans should continue to write him in not only in the hopes that he starts the All-Star Game, but also because he deserves it.
