I don’t get it. Jerry Manuel may be a bad manager, Oliver Perez may be an idiot, and Johan Santana may be really good, but nobody can explain to me why the Mets bite on the road and are dominant at home. The Mets had a wonderful shutout streak going that went to 35 IP, before Igarashi gave it up in what else, but an away game. If anybody can figure out why the Mets are so good at home and so bad on the road, you’ll be a genius in my eyes. Anyway…

My choice for MetsMerized Player Of The Week is…Jose Reyes!

First off, I have to admit, Alex68 called it. After Santana last week, Alex called Jose Reyes to be this week’s POTW, and Reyes lit up the scoreboard this week. Lately, he has been showing no ill effects of the surgery as he’s returning to the form he had when he was considered baseball’s most exciting player. I have no doubt that he can continue an All-Star level of performance for the rest of the season, and that can only be good for the Mets.

Reyes was a sizzling .500 on the week (13-26 ; 3 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR), and posted a .500/.536/.808 slash overall. He scored 7 times, drove in 7 runs, and walked twice. He also managed to steal 3 bases without a CS. His 21 TB led the team. Putting that all together, you have an amazing week from Jose Reyes and something Met fans have been waiting for a while now. By the way, he also plays good defense : a perfect week in 52 Innings and he was a part of 3 DP.

Jose, Jose, Jose. As the saying goes, when Jose goes, the Mets go. Although that might be a little bit illogical because it is a team sport, the simple fact of the matter is, when Jose Reyes gets on, the Mets have a much easier path to winning. Spark-plug, keep it up! Congratulations to Jose Reyes!

Of Note 5/23-5/30

So we kill at home and we suck on the road. As I type this, The Mets are losing 15-6 to the Padres. Ouch. Anyway…

Something cool : Feliciano 1.1 Scoreless, Mejia/K-Rod 2.0 Scoreless, Dessens/Valdes 3.0 Scoreless, Pelfrey 7.0 Scoreless, Santana 8.0 Scoreless.

Has R.A. Dickey not been a pleasant surprise? It’s fun having a knuckler on the staff.

Look for the return of Niese this week, though. 6.0 IP, 2 ER in his start in Buffalo. Hat tip to Paul Nassau for sending me that. Look for Niese to start…Saturday? Not sure.

Padres and Marlins this week. PLEASE let us win a series.

LGM!
