MetsMerized Player Of The Week! (Week 6)

I openly admit that I have not come to terms with the fact that we actually dealt with a four game sweep in Florida, because in my recent memory, that has never happened before. The Mets were usually able to scratch out a game or something, but we really messed it up this weekend. It’s amazing how the back end of our rotation dictates our win and losses so directly. We get good pitching from them and we get a win-streak. Bad pitching from them and we end up with a losing streak. I know it tends to be this way for most teams, but the Mets have been a prime example lately. Anyway…

My choice for MetsMerized Player Of The Week is…Angel Pagan!

This week’s choice was somewhat difficult, because Pagan and Bay both posted decent weeks. Even though the starting pitching wasn’t exactly great this week, the offense broke out of their slump a little, scoring a few runs and showing a little life late in games. Pagan was an integral part in that, batting in both the lead-off spot and the 3 hole.

Batting .321 (9-28 ; 2 2B, 1 HR, 14 TB), Pagan walked 3 times and scored 6 times, posting a respectable .321/.375/.500 slash line on the week. He drove in 5 and stole 2 bags on the week and managed to play a decent CF along the way, as well. He looked sharp this week and has admirably filled in for Carlos Beltran.

Pagan will never offer what Beltran can offensively or defensively, but the argument can be made that Pagan has been the most consistent player for the Mets this season. He’s given us decent production year round, and deserves some respect for even having to be in the same sentence as Gary Matthews Jr. Congrats to Angel!

The Mets registered one win. It went to Raul Valdes.

Acosta looked like the reliever I believed in, with 7 K in 3.2 IP. Still, he should be sent down when Igarashi comes around.

Pagan and Wright hit the only 2 HR for the Mets this week. Perez, Nieve, and Niese had E.R.A.s over 10.00.

Hisanori Takahashi and R.A. Dickey to make starts for the Mets this week, replacing Niese (injury) and Perez (he sucks.)
