Right about now, it feels pretty good to be a Mets fan. The Yankees lost on some bonehead calls by Girardi, and the Mets have been looking rejuvenated on the field. Some of that should really be credited to Ike Davis and Jose Reyes, who provided an incredible burst of energy to this team. I understand that we won against the Cubs and the Braves, but the Cubs have a decent offense and the Braves are a divisional opponent. It’s about time we let go of the cynical thoughts for at least a little bit. Santana is pitching soon, too, if you needed any extra motivation. Let’s move on!

My choice for MetsMerized Player Of The Week is…Jose Reyes!

Talk about shifting gears. Jose Reyes returned to the Mets lineup not too long ago, and looked a bit lost at the plate. However, a little bit of time has passed, and Reyes looks more alive than ever. If the Mets are to succeed this year, they need Jose Reyes to go back to being the spark plug he is, and he is looking like he is on the right path.

Reyes batted .391(9-23 ; 1 2B, 2 3B, 14 TB) on the week and also walked 3 times, posting a .391/.481/.609 slash line (AVG/OBP/SLG). He scored 6 runs, stole 3 bases, and drove in 2 runs. He played a perfect week on defense and took a part in 3 DP. His 9 H, 14 TB, 3 SB, 6 R, 2 3B, and .391/.481/.609 slash lead the team over the week, and those numbers alone explain why when Reyes succeeds, the Mets succeed.

I don’t think anybody could have asked for a better week from Jose, who transitioned to the 3 hole nicely and posted great numbers overall. If he keeps this up, expect him to jump up among the NL SB leaders and keep playing solid defense. Congratulations to Jose Reyes, and keep it up!

Who’s Hot And Who’s Not

Ike Davis: .318/.400/.500 (7-22 ; 1 2B, 1 HR), 2 RBI, 11 TB, 5 R, 3 BB.

Mike Pelfrey: 2 GS : 2-0, 12.0 IP, 0 R, 8 H, 8 BB, 9 K, 0.00 ERA.

David Wright: .182/.269/.227 (4-22 ; 1 2B), 2 R, 5 TB, 2 BB, 10 K.

Jeff Francoeur: .160/.160/.240 (4-25 ; 2 2B), 3 R, 2 RBI, 0 BB, 5 K.

Past Award Winners:

One Hit Wonders: Jeff Francoeur, Mike Pelfrey.

Of Note 4/18-4/25

I am somebody who appreciates good pitching, and that’s exactly what the Mets did for me this week. Pelfrey, Rodriguez, Nieve, Mejia, Valdes, and Igarashi combined for 22.1 IP this week, and did not allow a run. K-rod was a perfect 3-3 in SVO.

Jon Niese pitched to the tune of an 0.82 ERA and 13 K in 11 IP while Santana posted a 1.42 ERA with 5 K over 6.1 IP. The only Met pitcher to lose a game this week was Oliver Perez.

If you watched the games, the Mets walked way too many batters this week.

The Mets hit 4 HR (Davis, Tatis, Pagan, Barajas), stole 8 bases (Reyesx3, Wrightx2, Castillox2, Blanco), and walked 23 times.

Jeff Francoeur and David Wright are beginning to worry some people at the plate; Wright more than Jeff. Wright is striking out at the same rate he did last year and looking like he is pressing at the plate, while Jeff is looking a little too eager. Look for them both to calm down over the following week.

Mets baseball is only getting better from here, folks.

Debut of the Who’s Hot/Who’s Not Section, and I like it. LGM!
