And so it begins, and so it begins… Everyone is already wishing Carlos Beltran goodbye and I must do the same in due time. Carlos Beltran has done a great job for the Mets in the past – but for now, I’ll just focus on last week. He put up some nice numbers over the week – but I can’t help but give credit to a returning player that showed that he was ready to jump back into the fire this week as well.

My choice for co-MetsMerized Player Of The Week is…David Wright/Carlos Beltran!

Talk about great returns – Wright came back on Friday and jumped right into the action, showing that he was ready to come back. It’s going to be really important to see how Wright handles himself from here on out – without Beltran in the lineup and with a cloud of uncertainty floating around the hope that we’ll even see Ike on the field again before next season, Wright is going to have to step up and be the all-star caliber hitter he once was. I’m going to be quite upset when Carlos is on his way out – plain and simple.

David hasn’t exactly been in my good graces this year or last – It’s no new discovery that I don’t feel comfortable with him in important situations. But the skinny is this: David Wright, when healthy and hitting to his potential, is a top-tier third baseman and hits the ball pretty well overall. He’s got good speed too – Ex 30/30 player – and he’s worth a spot in my lineup everyday. I just don’t want him batting 4th. With Beltran about to be traded, however, we’re going to see Wright step into the 4th spot once again, I believe. If he hits, it might make losing Beltran a little…no, it’ll still hurt pretty bad, never mind.

In just three games played this week, Wright went .429/.429/.857 ( 6 – 14). Three hits were 2Bs and 1, a HR. He drove in 6 runs on the week and scored 4 times himself. On the other hand, Beltran had a .368/.536/.632 line because he walked 8 times this week alone. He had 7 hits, 2 2B/1 HR, drove in 7 runs, and scored 4 times himself. I really hope we can get him at a discount or something…

Congratulations to David Wright and Carlos Beltran!
