It’s so interesting to think about the idea that a Mets team who lost 90 games last year is now in contention for a playoff spot without their All-star caliber CF. Granted, Pagan has performed much better than anybody expected him to perform and the importance of his performance cannot be measured. Although, I wish the Mets were able to win games on the road…I shouldn’t complain, at least we’re winning. On to the POTW!

My choice for MetsMerized Player Of The Week is…David Wright!

David Wright – the young man who has been dubbed the Prince of the City. He plays the hot corner for the NY Mets under a large amount of pressure and he has brought upon himself that he is unclutch. I am still on the fence about the whole thing but I can see both sides of the argument. At the very least, David swung his bat with authority this week.

David posted a ridiculous .500(11-22 ; 4 2B, 2 HR) average and posted a .500/.556/.955 slash line overall. David drove in 8 runs, scored 7 times, and walked 4 times. He had 21 TB on the week where he managed to steal one base as well along with a caught stealing. He also managed a strong week on defense.

David Wright seems to be turning into a streaky hitter and I’m not sure if I am against it because his hot streaks are blistering. He still strikes out a great deal for someone who may never hit 40 HRs and I think that worries me. Simply put, the Mets need David Wright to drive in runs for them to succeed, and he’s been doing just that. Congrats to David Wright!

Of Note 6/21-6/28

Johan Santana is beginning to worry me. It almost makes me feel like we do need a top of the rotation starter at the deadline.

R.A. Dickey went soft today and got beat up a little out there but I still believe he can help the Mets as a fifth starter type guy. Takahashi belongs in the bullpen.

Marlins and Nationals this week? LGM!
