The Mets looked strong once again last week but lost the last two games of their road trip to the Yankees, posting a 7-2 road trip overall. Santana got victimized by a Grand Slam (again!) and that made the start look a lot worse than it probably was. Beltran’s rehabbing, Mejia’s in AA, and Parnell looks to make his return to the MLB in a move that I have to question slightly. Anyway, on to the POTW!

My choice for MetsMerized Player Of The Week is…Jose Reyes!

Jose Reyes is making it really hard for me to choose anybody else at this point. It feels like yesterday when people were calling for his head and begging for him to be traded because he’s a kid or he’ll never mature into a great player. I have to admit that Reyes has had me fooled. He’s been scorching hot lately and he has helped sparked this team along a nice stretch.

Reyes batted .333(9-27; 2 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR) and posted a .333/.357/.704 slash line overall. He scored 8 times, drove in 6 runs, and managed to steal a base. He posted a ridiculous 19 TB for a lead-off hitter which led the team, along with his .704 SLG, 8 R, and 2 HR. Add in the fact that he took a part in 3 DP on defense, and it was a nice overall week for Jose.

Jose, Jose, Jose…He’s just being himself right now. Getting on base, causing havoc, scoring runs, and even getting in on a few XBH right now. Without Reyes, this team is incomplete, and this is a team that quietly emphasizes doing the little things. Stolen bases fall into that category and who better to provide them than Jose? He’s up to 17 right now…Congrats to Jose Reyes!

One Hit Wonders: Jeff Francoeur, Mike Pelfrey, Jose Reyes, Ike Davis, Angel Pagan, Johan Santana.

Third Time’s The Charm: Jose Reyes

Of Note 6/14-6/21

Johan Santana and Jason Bay are cold at the same time. Jason Bay has yet to experience a hot streak here in NY but I’m still keeping the faith in that guy.

Elmer Dessens added another 3 scoreless IP this year and he has actually been really good out of the pen this year. Look for Parnell to come up as more reinforcements to take Mejia’s spot.

All we can do is keep hoping that the starting pitching continues to do great and that our offense continues to stay strong.

I think the team will have a different confidence about them when Beltran comes back, and news from his rehab is positive but…what do we do with Pagan?

Jon Niese opens up a series against the Tigers and Justin Verlander tonight, and later on this week, Santana faces the Twins for the first time since the trade. LGM!
