The Mets looked extremely sharp last week, posting a 5-1 record over their last 7 days. The off-day seemed to have no ill effect on the team and hopefully that trend will carry over into Cleveland as the Mets travel there to take on the Indians this week. It is a great day to be a Mets fan, with the Mets looking sharper than ever lately, and you have to give most of the credit to the Starting Pitching. However, they needed to score to win, so this week’s award goes to a position player once again.

My choice for MetsMerized Player Of The Week is…Jose Reyes!

At first thought, you might be wondering why I chose Jose Reyes over someone like, David Wright? I am one of those people who strongly believes that Reyes is the catalyst to our offense – and when I say catalyst, I mean that Reyes is the guy that our David Wright, Ike Davis, and Jason Bay need to drive in to do their job. If Reyes isn’t getting on base, the Mets offense looks anemic because the top of the lineup is weak, and they can not rely on the home run ball. So on a week like this where Reyes was on fire, I feel he deserves the award.

Reyes posted a scorching .480 AVG (12-25 ; 1 2B, 2 HR) and posted a .480/.500/.760 slash overall. His only 2 RBI were off the 2 HR, but the 2 HRs are pretty much just a bonus from Reyes on the week. Getting on base 13 times (including his 1 BB) is extremely helpful to the team, and he managed to steal 2 bases on the week as well. He scored 4 runs through it all, and his 19 total bases led the team this week.

Jose Reyes…what a guy. He looks like he is on the right path to reclaiming his title as the most exciting player in baseball, and it could not have come at a better time. You wonder what the possibilities are if Reyes keeps getting on base and the Mets acquire one more solid starter…Playoffs? Nobody tell Jim Mora. Congratulations to Jose Reyes!

Of Note 6/7-6/14

You know who’s not bad? Hisanori Takahashi.

You know who’s good? R.A. Dickey.

You know who’s unstoppable right now? Jon Niese. (Here’s something interesting. Jon Niese walked twice, and walked none while pitching. His 2 BB was team leading and actually was more than 70% of the team combined.)

The “Animal” Chris Carter! Congratulations for his 1st and 2nd career HRs, and to Jesus Feliciano on his first 2 hits.

Have to throw in my weekly “Mike Pelfrey is really good” statement.

Santana needs run support and he needs it bad.

John Maine rehabbed in AA and threw shutout innings with an 88 MPH heater. Manuel has noted that he won’t move Maine to the rotation unless he touches 92 consistently. I can only hope he sticks to his word.

I like the look of Ruben Tejada on defense and I like it a lot.

Every Met player who had an AB struck out at least once this week…Ouch.

Here’s looking forward to another good week of Mets baseball! LGM
