This week was a harder decision than I’ve had to make in a while – go with the pitcher or go with our electric lead off man. It’s sometimes hard to choose what matters more (and usually, I’m such a pitching maniac). I was really impressed with the starting pitching of the Mets this week – honestly, Dan Warthen’s doing something right or the pitchers are finally putting it together. I think it’s a little bit of both but I’m not hesitating to at least throw a compliment in Warthen’s direction.

In any case, my choice for MetsMerized Player Of The Week is…Jose Reyes!

It’s really hard to NOT choose Jose Reyes when he bats .414 over the course of a week and drills 2 HRs. His slash line was .414/.433/.724 (Yeah, a leadoff with a .724 SLG). He was 12 – 29 on the week – 2B, 3B, and the aforementioned 2 HRs. 21 TB on the week, a BB, a SB and 6 R scored overall in a great week for Jose. He also took part in 6 DP on defense and did not make a defensive error all week.

You talk about the best active lead off men – you talk about Jose Reyes. You talk about speed, electricity, and energy – you talk about Jose Reyes. If the Mets don’t resign him, as I’ve stated before, I would have to reconsider my Mets fandom. I’d probably stick with them through it all anyway – but honestly, who’s going to replace Jose Reyes? This team will be nowhere near as a threat offensively. Congrats to Reyes and here’s to resigning him!
