I really don’t get what’s going on. How is it that a major league team can fall victim to so many injuries? Not only has every core player position player taken an injury and trip to disabled list this year, but this last one was extremely scary. A fastball to the head turned a decent pitcher in public enemy number 1 in New York City. Even our prospects (See : Fernando Martinez, Jon Niese) have fallen victim to injuries. This is beyond unorthodox. But i’ve still got to make a choice for this week’s player of the week. So on to it, I guess.

My choice for MetsMerized Player Of The Week is… Luis Castillo!

Luis Castillo had a great week and has been on an extended tear for a long time now. We might as well just say he’s having a good season. This is the second time Luis Castillo has won this award, and he is the first Met to repeat.

Castillo batted .421 (8-19) with 7 runs scored on the week. He hit his first HR on the year and drove in 3 runs all together in the week, and banged out 11 TB. His 8 hits, 7 runs, and .500 OBP led the team, and he threw in a stolen base for good measure.

The only downside on the week is that Luis made 2 errors which set him up for a .909 FLD percentage. Nothing against Luis Castillo, but a fellow writer here, Ed Leyro, was right when he said it says something about a NY Mets team where Luis Castillo is considered for multiple awards. But he is a solid player, and he has meant alot to this team this year. So Kudos to Luis Castillo!

Honorable Mentions:

Jeff Francoeur: .273 (6-22; 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR), 2 RBI, 12 TB, 2 BB, .545 SLG

Robert Parnell: 1 GS, 1 QS. 6.0 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 7 K.

Past Award Winners:

One Hit Wonders: Ryan Church, Daniel Murphy, Johan Santana, Jeff Francoeur, David Wright, Angel Pagan

Been There, Done That Twice: Luis Castillo

Of Note 8/9-8/16

Here is the list of all the Mets who have been injured or been on the disabled list this year: Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, Ryan Church, Carlos Delgado, John Maine, Oliver Perez, Angel Pagan, Jon Niese, Luis Castillo, Gary Sheffield, J.J. Putz, Billy Wagner, Ramon Martinez, Fernando Nieve, Fernando Martinez, Tim Redding, Brian Schneider, Alex Cora, David Wright.

The Mets hit 3 HRs last week again. (Castillo, Francoeur, Pagan.)

Stokes, Redding, Parnell, and Feliciano did not allow a run last week, and Perez allowed one.

Great job by Parnell, I’m interested to see what he does as an encore. I’m going to hope that he gets 100 pitches in his next start, but I can’t confirm anything.

Wagner is set to return soon, Luis Castillo hit a 420 foot HR, and the Mets may let Steven Matz walk over 500 K. Seriously, guys.

Should I stop believing now?
