I don’t like Shane Victorino, and I don’t like unassisted game-ending triple plays. I also don’t like the fact that although I continue to say I can believe in Oliver Perez, he continues to give me every reason not to. For anyone who was wondering, Perez’s contract ends in about 798 days. Although the week could’ve been worse, I’m convinced I have seen the Mets lose in every conceivable way known to man. However, there’s always a silver lining…such as this week’s award.

My choice for MetsMerized Player Of The Week is…Angel Pagan!

Angel Pagan was a guy who we knew had talent, but not as much talent as he’s shown us while filling in for Carlos Beltran. He has done an admirable job and has somehow found a very impressive power stroke. In addition to his offensive success, he has also done a great job in CF filling in for our resident Gold-Glove CF.

Last week, Pagan batted .333 (9-27) in 6 games while scoring 5 runs and driving in 5 runs. Pagan stroked 2 doubles and 2 HRs, finishing with a .630 SLG on the week. With 17 TB and 2 SB without a CS on the week, Pagan was a worthy candidate for this week’s award.

Throw in a perfect week on defense, and Angel Pagan is looking good. It’s disappointing that such a great performance this year will most likely result in a 4th OF job next year, but I agree with the decision. But for now, Kudos to Angel Pagan!

Honorable Mentions:

Daniel Murphy: .387 (12-31; 5 2B, 1 3B), 2 RBI, 19 TB, 1 SB

Jeff Francoeur: .345 (10-29; 4 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR), 5 R, 3 RBI, 19 TB.

Past Award Winners:

One Hit Wonders: Ryan Church, Daniel Murphy, Johan Santana, Jeff Francoeur, David Wright.

Been There, Done That Twice: Luis Castillo, Angel Pagan.

Of Note 8/16-8/23

Billy Wagner made his successful return to the Mets this week, throwing hard and with pinpoint control. However, it was just one outing. It’s smart not to use him until the possible trade with the Red Sox is sorted out before he messes up. Of course, Billy is already messing up by being a hard-head with his trade demands. Curse us for giving him a no-trade clause. Then again, we figured we’d never have to use it.

Three HRs for the Mets again this week, 2 from Pagan and one from Frenchy.

Can Perez ever string three good starts together anymore? Parnell takes on Cliff Lee tonight. I expect improvement from his last start, and serious improvement from Oliver’s start. By the way, Brian Stokes continues to be a reliable relief option, posting a 0.00 ERA this week.

Castillo had 14 hits this week, and they were all singles, resulting in a .538 average, and a .538 SLG.

I’m almost done believing.
