So here we are, still a mile away from playoffs ambitions and the hope in the fanbase is dwindling. However, I’m still believing. One of the things that does worry me is the true status of our injured players. The list is long and isn’t easy on the eyes, and it has been growing for a long time now. The Mets hope to receive help to their team of the walking wounded soon enough here in August, but I would advise everyone not to get their hopes up too high, unless you’re looking forward to Wagner’s return like myself. Anyway, let’s get on to this week’s award.

My choice for MetsMerized Player of the Week is…David Wright!

One thing I realized when I was going over this week in review, is that the reason the Mets were winning earlier this week is because they were playing as a true team. The Berroa’s, Sullivan’s and even the Tatis’ were getting hits, and big ones at that. Although the Mets lost a head of steam going into the Arizona series due to two tough losses, they proved to me in the beginning of the week that there’s still reason to believe. For the Mets to succeed however, they’re going to need David Wright to put a little bit more on the scoreboard, at least until a position player returns from the DL, and then they’ll still need his once-30 homer bat in the lineup.

David quietly put up some good numbers this week. When I was mulling over my choice for Player Of The Week, i realized that David contributed with solid numbers across the board.

Wright was batting .391 (9-23) with 5 runs scored on the week, and those 9 hits leading the team. He posted an OBP of .483 with 5 BB, both team leading. 3 2B and an actual Wright home run contributed to a .652 SLG percentage. David drove in 3 runs and managed to steal 2 bases. He also led the team with 15 Total Bases on the week.

David logged a perfect week on defense, and it was a welcome decent offensive week for Wright. Citi Field honestly has robbed David of some of his HRs so the stat sheet doesn’t look as nice as you would hope it would for a David Wright season. However, he’s posted a strong average and has shown that his lost aggression on the basepaths may have been refound. He may not be the David Wright of old, but he’s still worth alot to this team. So Kudos to David Wright!

Of Note 7/26-8/2

This is the third week in a row Angel Pagan has been on the honorable mentions list, as even when he didn’t post a great average, he had some key hits.

Jeff Francoeur’s two HRs were tied with Fernando Tatis for team lead on the week. The Mets had 7 HRs, 3 3B, and 15 2B this week.

Pedro Feliciano had two wins this week with a sparkling 1.93 ERA. The entire mets SP staff had 2 wins this week.

The NYM pitching staff hit 6 batters this week, and every pitcher but Feliciano had at least one walk.

Looking ahead to the future, the Mets finish their series against Arizona today against Dan Haren, then move on to the Cardinals and a trip to SD for the Padres.
