Most people won’t be paying attention to the Mets blogosphere anymore, and I can understand why. But that doesn’t mean the bloggers are going to stop blogging! The “Fan Confidence Rating” on Metsblog continues to amaze me by staying above 0%. Really. Because I’ve been reading a lot about giving it in and sadly, it does make sense. I don’t want this season to be a total loss, and I don’t think it is or will be. Rebuilding is for teams that are just bad. We’re just injury plagued. However, this team, as with many others in the past, was built to win this year, and that’s where I feel the problem will be. Anyway, on to this week’s award.

My choice for MetsMerized Player Of The Week is…Johan Santana!

The Mets only played four games this week, thanks to the All-Star break, and Santana made one start.

A questionable call by Jerry Manuel allowed Santana to start Saturday and pitch a brilliant game against the Atlanta Braves, giving him his first career win against them. He led Met pitchers in IP (7.0) and was second in K’s with 5. With a quality start and seven shutout innings behind him, there was really no competition.

It’s probably going to be a rough second half starting from now, but I’m pretty sure this guy will be the one consistent factor in the equation. He’s known for his second half pitching, and he got the second half started on a good start with this win. With the Mets offense M.I.A., Santana’s going to need to pitch like Cy Young to put himself in any place to win the Cy Young. But Kudos To Santana!

Honorable Mentions :

Oliver Perez : 1 GS, 1 QS, 6.0 IP, 3 ER, 5 H(2 HR), 4 BB, 6 K.

Angel Pagan : .313 (5-16), 1 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 RBI, .500 SLG

Award Winners :

One Hit Wonders : Luis Castillo, Ryan Church, Daniel Murphy, Johan Santana

Of Note 7/12-7/19

The Mets had 4 players voted to the All-star game (Wright, Beltran, Rodriguez, Santana) with only Wright and K-rod actually playing. Wright scored a run, and had one hit, while K-rod pitched a scoreless ninth in a non-save situation.

The Mets did not hit a home run in Atlanta. What a surprise.

Pelfrey (4.1 IP) and Feliciano (.1 IP) had ERAs of 18.69 and 54.00, respectively in Atlanta, each pitching in only one game.

The only person with more than 1 RBI for New York in Atlanta was Jeff Francoeur (3 RBI), but he batted a mere .188 while returning.

Fernando Nieve and Gary Sheffield went down with injuries. You’ve got to be kidding me.
