Could Mad Max be on his way to a second World Series title?

Vegas certainly thinks so, raising the Mets championship odds two times since his three-year, $130 million contract became official.

Per OddsChecker the best odds you could find on the Mets winning the World Series before Max Scherzer‘s signing was known was +2200 or 4.3%.

Now that number is gone on sportsbooks across the country with some more than doubling the Mets odds to +1000 or giving them a 9.1% chance to win the World Series this upcoming season.

The range of odd goes from +1000 to +1300 depending on who you go to. BetMGM is at the high mark while Borgata is at the low mark. Presently the Mets have the fourth-best odds to win the World Series behind the Dodgers, White Sox, and Yankees.

Last season with the Nationals and Dodgers, Scherzer was 15-4 with a 2.46 ERA and 236 strikeouts. He was 7-0 with a 1.98 ERA and 92 strikeouts in 11 starts as a Dodger. He set new career lows for ERA and WHIP (0.86) and his 29.9% K-BB% was the second-highest of his carer.

Scherzer is the latest addition to a Mets team that’s already brought in Eduardo Escobar, Mark Canha, and the best centerfielder on the market in Starling Marte. Clearly, these additions have outpaced the odds despite the Mets losing Noah Syndergaard, Aaron Loup, Javier Báez, and likely Marcus Stroman and Michael Conforto in free agency.
