New York Mets’ assistant general manager John Ricco spoke to the press before tonight’s game at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, touching on a few different subjects.

Most notably, Ricco shared some of the team’s strategy as they creep closer to the July 31 trade deadline.

He confirmed “both the ability and the willingness to absorb salary in trade deadline deals”, and that “the emphasis will be on getting as much upper-level minor league talent back as they can.”

Jeurys Familia and Asdrubal Cabrera have been reported as likely to be moved, and there has been confirmed interest in a number of the Mets’ starting pitchers.

Now, with the confirmed ability to eat some money in order to increase their returns, it could change the entire landscape of what’s to come over the next month or so.
