The New York Mets (29-22) were defeated by the Chicago White Sox (28-25) by a score of 6-4 tonight at Citi Field.

Pitching:

Steven Matz toed the rubber for the Amazin’s tonight, and pitched very well before hitting a wall in the sixth inning, which I’m sure the young lefty wishes he had a mulligan for.

In that sixth inning, Matz let up a two-run homer to Todd Frazier, who’s fifteenth home run of the year leads the American League.

After rolling a double play shortly after the Frazier home run, Matz walked Tyler Saladino, who promptly swiped second and third base, and scored on a single from Dioner Navarro.

This would effectively end Matz’s day, being removed in favor of Jim Henderson, who luckily bailed Matz out of a jam by retiring the final batter of the inning.

The fans at Citi Field were treated to an appearance from Noah Syndergaard in the seventh inning, who threw a scoreless frame and consistently touched triple digits.

However, after the Mets held the lead the entire game, the ChiSox turned the tables in the eighth on a two-run home run from the aforementioned Tyler Saladino off of Hansel Robles.

Robles threw 30 pitches in 2/3rd’s of an inning, before Jerry Blevins was called upon to attempt to record the final out.

Blevins walked the only batter to face him, the Mets third walk of the inning, and was replaced by Logan Verrett.

Verrett allowed the third White Sox run of the inning to score, giving Chicago a 6-4 lead, but stopped the bleeding, retiring the next batter, however the damage had been done.

Offense:

In the first inning after Curtis Granderson singled, the White Sox failed to turn a double play. the Mets were in business to start the game.

Granderson advanced to third, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Yoenis Cespedes to plate the first run of the game.

In the second, the Mets tacked on another run via the sacrifice fly, this time off the bat of Curtis Granderson.

In the third, Neil Walker doubled the Mets score and gave them an early, commanding 4-0 lead with his 13th home run of the year.

However, the Mets offense would remain quiet the rest of the night, as they failed to regain the lead after the White Sox rallied late.

On deck:

The Mets will look to take the rubber game tomorrow afternoon, with Jacob deGrom (3-1, 2.81 ERA) taking on Miguel Gonzalez (0-1, 4.50 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM.
