David Peterson delivered a solid outing on Tuesday night for the Mets, but was left without support from the offense as the Mets fell to the Boston Red Sox 2-1 in New York.
Peterson pitched six strong innings, giving up four hits, two earned runs, two walks, and a home run to Bobby Dalbec in the third inning, one of the only few mistakes the left-hander made against a strong Red Sox offense. He also gave up a double to Enrique Hernandez in the sixth. Peterson struck out three over the course of 92 pitches thrown (62 strikes).
With giving up both of the Red Sox’s two runs, Peterson takes the loss to fall to 1-3 on the season. He has a 5.59 ERA after Tuesday’s matchup against the Red Sox. Peterson has pitched well in 2021, but does not have the record to show for it.
Luis Rojas met with the media following Tuesday night’s loss. He mentioned that Peterson was “establishing his fastball, and was commanding it on both sides of the plate.” Rojas also stated that Peterson got a lot of batters to chase his changeup out of the zone.
Peterson followed Rojas in speaking to the media.
“Overall, I feel like I’m in a good spot honestly. Physically and mentally I feel good,” stated Peterson. The left-handed pitcher stated that to him, every day is a new day. “Every day is a good opportunity to learn something,” he said.
Peterson said Wednesday he will focus on what he did well Tuesday night and what he can improve before his next start. He said he takes each day as it is presented and learning what he can out of each day and each outing.
