Kelly Johnson did the unthinkable last night, hitting a two-run game tying blast in the bottom of the ninth inning. Hope arose throughout Citi Field that our Metropolitans would somehow find a way to win this game. That same hope though died in the 12th inning.

In what was Johnson’s biggest hit since returning to the Mets, it all went to waste as the Mets fell by a score of 3-2. The team just cannot seem to get out of it’s own way as of late. On a night where with a win, they could have been just 1.5 games out of the second Wild Card spot. Johnson had no doubt that they would win this game after his blast.

“No doubt,” Johnson said. “I thought that’d be a game we’d win and carry some momentum. It’s unfortunate. We’ve got to find a way to get something done eventually.”  (NYDN)

Johnson has filled numerous holes for the Mets as of late and continues to be a valuable player off the bench. Overall on the season, he has hit to a .245/.301/.391 slash to go along with seven homers and 21 RBI.

This was a series that the Mets should have been able to win with ease, and have now dropped the first two. Manager, Terry Collins seems to be at a loss as to how this team did not finish the job yesterday.

“I thought we were going to win the game, yes,” Collins said. “Matter of fact, I thought that inning we were going to win. We had another guy in scoring position. I thought with the momentum, the energy, I thought we were going to get a base hit and win the game.”

The Mets will look to salvage the final game of this series today at 12:10 PM ET with Noah Syndergaard taking the mound.
