bartolo colon

The crafty 43 year-old, Bartolo Colon was able to again put on a clinic against his opponent in Wednesday’s 3-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He continues to defy any logic as to how he is still so good in his ripe age.

Colon pitched to seven innings while allowing just one run. He allowed seven hits while walking just one and striking out eight. He received a no-decision in the extra innings loss.

As the team continues to squander, Colon continues to cruise. Overall on the season he has pitched to a 10-6 record with an ERA of 3.35 and a WHIP which stands at 1.20. The clock is starting to run out on this 2016 Mets’ chances of reaching the postseason, something Terry Collins knows very well.

“I hope they don’t think it’s just going to happen,” Collins said. “You have to make things happen in this league. They don’t just happen. The talent is too good here, you’ve got to go out and earn it. You’re not given anything here.” (ESPN)

Colon and some of his fellow starts have done their part to help the team succeed this season. When the offense seems to get it going, the bullpen seems to unravel though. Just as when the starters are on a role and the offense is non-existent. This team has just been unable to click on all cylinders this season.

As Big Sexy enters his twilight years with possibly only one more season in him as he stated earlier in the year, he no doubt would like to reach the postseason once more. That opportunity though is seeming to get more bleak by the day.
