I’m feeling very ill tonight so I hope you don’t mind this very condensed version of tonight’s game.
The Mets blew a 2-1 ninth inning lead as the Washington Nationals tagged closer Bobby Parnell for two runs in their dramatic 3-2 walk-off win.
Jeremy Hefner threw an absolute gem, holding the Nats to one run on four hits while striking out seven. His only blemish was a solo home run to Ian Desmond. As I said earlier today, Hefner has been a solid number five starter and is suffering from a very bad case of rotten luck this season.
The Mets had just four hits tonight against Nats starter Jordan Zimmermann, two from Omar Quintanilla and two from Jordany Valdespin. That’s it. Q also drove in the team’s only runs with a two-run triple in the fifth inning.
Mets 3-4-5-6 hitters went a combined 0-for-15 tonight and Wright’s slump has now seen his average drop to .273 for the season. Buck is now batting .217.
Parnell ended his streak of seven straight converted saves and took the loss, his second of the season.
The Mets will look to stop their four game losing streak tomorrow night when Dillon Gee opposes the Nationals’ Dan Haren at 7:05 pm.
