Pagan and Pelfrey Will Be Tendered: According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Mets will tender contracts to both Angel Pagan and Mike Pelfrey. The two contracts are expected to total somewhere in the $10 million range for 2012. It was reported last week that the Mets planned to tender Pagan and yesterday Scott Boras stated that he believed Pelfrey would be tendered.

It was more of a given that Pelfrey would be tendered than Pagan out of lack of in-house starting pitching, but it appears that the Mets will not be able to find a decent centerfielder that is cheaper than what they will likely pay Pagan at arbitration.

When asked about Pagan, Sandy Alderson said:

“I think Angel gave us quite a bit that maybe was underappreciated. Maybe the defense was not up to his expectation or even ours. But he gave us some speed on the bases. He filled in, I think, reasonably well for Jose when he was out, filled in at the top of the lineup. So I think there were some positive things there that maybe were overlooked by some people. If we have Angel in center field to begin next season, I think we’ll be happy with that.”

Alderson Has High Asking Price For Wright: Also according to Heyman, Sandy Alderson has a very high asking price for David Wright. Alderson said he would only deal the all-star third baseman “if someone blows us away”. Wright has an option for 2013 that is only valid for the Mets, so getting such a large deal that Alderson is seeking for a rental player is unlikely.

Mets Interested In Jason Marquis: According to Ken Davidoff of Newsday, the Mets have interest in Jason Marquis to replace Chris Capuano in the rotation. It was reported earlier this week that the Mets had “crossed Capuano off their list” because he was seeking a multi-year deal.

The 33-year old Staten Island native grew up a Mets fan and has shown interest in playing in Flushing. His most recent display of interest came in the 2009 offseason when he ultimately signed with the Nationals for 2-years and $15 million. After missing most of 2010 and struggling with the Diamondbacks at the end of this past season, Marquis would likely come a a cheap, incentive-laden contract.
