Game Notes

Juan Lagares went 3-4 with two doubles, one run scored and one RBI last night. The three hits equaled his career-high, also done on June 5 at Washington. Lagares has hit in four straight games, batting .438 (7-16)…Since June 5, Lagares is hitting .326 (15-46) with six runs scored, four doubles, one triple and three RBI.

Eric Young Jr. was 2-4 with one run scored and two RBI last night, and in in three games with New York, Young is hitting .250 (3-12) with two RBI.

Josh Satin has reached base safely in his last five plate appearances (three hits and two walks), including the go-ahead RBI double in the seventh inning on Thursday at Atlanta. Satin has hit in three straight games, going 3-5 (.600).

New York placed southpaw Jonathon Niese on the disabled list Friday, a day after he had to depart his start early. Doctors diagnosed the left-hander with a partial rotator cuff tear. Niese, a 13-game winner last season, will be on a strength program for two weeks.

Tim Byrdak tossed a scoreless inning with one walk and one strikeout today in the Gulf Coast League. It marked Byrdak’s first game action since undergoing surgery on Sept. 6, 2012 to repair a torn anterior capsule in his pitching shoulder.
