We have finally gotten the chance to update the New York Mets Top 30 Prospects rankings with the trade deadline passed and here is it for all of your scrutiny:

  1. Amed Rosario (SS, Mets) No surprised here for one of the best prospects in baseball
  2. Dominic Smith (1B, 51s) Again, no surprise, and hopefully he will join Rosario in the majors soon.
  3. Andres Gimenez (SS, Fireflies) 18-year-old impressing in his first stateside stint with the Columbia Fireflies.
  4. Chris Flexen (RHP, Mets) Finally healthy and striking out batters has him aggressively climbing the list.
  5. David Peterson (LHP, Cyclones) Potential fast moving lefty that’s likely to start in 2018 in St. Lucie.
  6. Thomas Szapucki (LHP, Fireflies) Season-ending injury has the talented lefty slipping down in our list.
  7. Justin Dunn (RHP, St. Lucie) Disappointing season from 2016 first rounder.
  8. Gavin Cecchini (2B/SS, Vegas) Defense has improved, but he’s struggled offensively in 2017.
  9. Peter Alonso (1B, St. Lucie) Has 20 doubles and 15 home runs in 70 games in a pitchers league.
  10. Mark Vientos (SS/3B, GCL) 17-year-old with tremendous potential with the bat.
  11. Desmond Lindsay (OF, Fireflies) Poorly timed season-ending injury, had .842 second half OPS.
  12. Tomas Nido (C, Binghamton) It’s been a struggle offensively, but the defense has been top notch still.
  13. Luis Guillorme (SS/2B) Defensive wizard is getting on at a high clip (.377 OBP) without pop though (.343 SLG).
  14. Corey Oswalt (RHP, Binghamton) Strong AFL season has turned into even better season in AA (2.28 ERA in 20 starts).
  15. Marcos Molina (RHP, Binghamton) Dip in velocity this year has him dropped and us concerned.
  16. Nabil Crismatt (RHP, St. Lucie) Personal favorite that has 121 strikeouts/30 walks in 121 innings.
  17. Stephen Nogosek (RHP, St. Lucie) Acquired in Reed trade, guy that could mvoe quickly with good sinker, cutter and slider.
  18. Drew Smith (RHP, Binghamton) Plus fastball, above average curve and a good delivery, could see him in majors next season.
  19. Luis Carpio (SS/2B, Fireflies) Healthy return from shoulder surgery, but the bat has been weak.
  20. Jordan Humphreys (RHP, St. Lucie) Injury concern (out since June) dropped in down on our list despite impressive season.
  21. Gregory Guerrero (SS/2B, GCL Mets) Raw 18-year-old getting his first taste of stateside baseball.
  22. P.J. Conlon (LHP, Binghamton) Crafty lefty has held his own in Double-A.
  23. Jamie Callahan (RHP, Las Vegas) Closest to MLB ready reliever the Mets acquired, failed starter with plus fastball.
  24. Michael Paez (2B/3B, St. Lucie) Former SS has struggled in St. Lucie after great start to season in Columbia.
  25. Patrick Mazeika (C/1B) Questions remain about whether he can stay at catcher and power has fallen off in second half.
  26. Ronny Mauricio (SS) Talented young infielder that set new Mets record with his $2.1 million signing bonus.
  27. Wuilmer Becerra (OF, St. Lucie) Bad offensive season following surgery has him slipping fast.
  28. Gerson Bautista (RHP, St. Lucie) Highest ceiling of relievers Mets acquired, has hit 101 MPH before and already topped out at 99 MPH for St. Lucie.
  29. David Thompson (3B, Binghamton) Solid defensive season, struggled offensively to start but showing more pop (.460 SLG) in second half.
  30. Jhoan Urena (3B/1B, St. Lucie) Still only 22, has a career high 33 doubles and 17 stolen bases.

The two names that we didn’t fit into this list that we feel you need to know more about are right-handed relievers Adonis Uceta and Tyler Bashlor.

Uceta, 23, is a failed starter that has been clocked at 99 MPH this year out of the bullpen. He hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last 34 innings between the Columbia Fireflies and the St. Lucie Mets.

Bashlor, 24, hasn’t allowed a run since being promoted to Binghamton (7.1 IP) and has 73 strikeouts in 42.1 innings this year. His 15.46 K/9 is second best in the entire minor leagues.

Both Uceta and Bashlor have to be added to the Mets 40-man roster this offseason if they want to protect them from the Rule 5 draft.

I will add one of my personal favorites to this group that didn’t make the list in outfielder Jose Miguel Medina (we had him at No. 32). The lanky 20-year-old is second in New York-Penn League with 20 stolen bases (has 24 overall). He’s hitting only .274/.341/.356, but has some raw potential in his bat and I liked the sound off the bat when I saw him this spring. Has a strong arm and is an athletic right fielder.

Thanks to all the writers at MetsMinors.net that helped make this list; Mathew Brownstein, John Sheridan, Jacob Resnick, Ernest Dove and Corne Hogeveen.

Lastly, thank you to all the readers that have shown interest in Mets prospects and the minor leagues.
