With the trade deadline and draft in the rearview mirror it’s time to look at MMO’s version of the Mets updated Top 30 prospects list. Obviously this list looks a little bleaker following the trade of Pete Crow-Armstrong and the kerfuffle with Kumar Rocker. But, the healthy players at the top of this list have performed well in 2021 and seen that recognized in multiple mid-season top 100 lists.

Let’s take a look at the list.

  1. Francisco Alvarez – Catcher (as high as #5 prospect in baseball on FG)
  2. Brett Baty – 3B/LF (as high as #16 in baseball by BP and FG)
  3. Ronny Mauricio – SS (as high as #27 on FG)
  4. Matt Allan – RHP (as high as #62 on FG)
  5. Mark Vientos – 3B/1B/LF (top ranking is #86 by BA)
  6. J.T. Ginn – RHP (2nd RD pick from 2020)
  7. Alex Ramirez – CF (18-year-old playing with St. Lucie Mets)
  8. Khalil Lee – OF (150 wRC+ in Triple-A)
  9. Jaylen Palmer – UT (leads Mets minors with 28 SB)
  10. Carlos Cortes OF/2B (121 wRC+ in Double-A)
  11. Jose Butto – RHP (2.89 ERA in Double-A)
  12. Robert Dominguez – RHP (Upper 90’s heater)
  13. Junior Santos – RHP (Hit 97 mph pitching for St. Lucie)
  14. Dominic Hamel – RHP (2021 3rd rounder)
  15. Calvin Ziegler – RHP (2021 2nd rounder)

  21. Carlos Rincon – OF (131 wRC+ in Double-A since coming over in Billy McKinney trade)
  22. Joander Suarez – RHP (out for season with TJS)
  23. Jose Peroza – 2B/3B (127 wRC+ this season)
  24. Stanley Consuegra – OF (health has been issue, but posting impressive exit velos still)
  25. Mike Vasil – RHP (8th rounder in 2021)
  26. Eric Orze – RHP (25.7 K-BB%, up to Triple-A as reliever)
  27. Cole Gordon – RHP (Hasn’t allowed an earned run in last 31 Double-A innings)
  28. Wilmer Reyes – INF (Great glove, missed most of season with knee injury)
  29. Joshua Cornielly – RHP (missed 2021 season)
  30. Adam Oller – RHP (31.2 K%, up to Triple-A as starter)

As you can see, the Mets system takes a drop off following the top group. They’ve also been hit hard by arm injuries to Allan, Suarez, Szapucki, Ventura, Richard Brito, and Daison Acosta. A few other names to watch in the hard-throwing department are Colin Holderman (hit 99 mph when I saw him earlier this year), Michel Otanez, Bryce Montes De Oca (hit 101 mph), and Sammy Tavarez.

Another pitching name to keep an eye on is right-hander Joel Diaz. The 17-year-old hasn’t allowed a run in 31 innings pitching for the Dominican Summer League Mets this year. His fastball is up to 94 mph and he pairs that with a high spin curveball.

Right-handed starter Tylor Megill is the big graduation from this list as he continues to show the Mets he’s a legitimate major league starter.
