Adam Rubin reported on his blog that the Mets have trimmed four players from the roster immediately after last nights 16-8 loss to the Marlins.

Rob Mackowiak, Eddie Kunz, Valerio de los Santos and Josh Thole were each sent to minor league camp.

Yesterday I wrote that Eddie Kunz had no shot and would close for Buffalo, I think all of us Mets fans could have predicted that. But I was wrong for guessing that Valerio de los Santos would be one of the last cuts in camp. I thought for sure he would stick around. I suppose this is good news for veteran lefty Ron Villone.

Obviously, we all knew Thole was here for a just a looksie, but the outfield reserves battle just got a little bit more interesting.

Jeremy Reed and Marlon Anderson are the clear favorites, but how can you ignore Cory Sullivan’s big spring or Bobby Kielty’s righthanded power?

Of course the most pressing issue is what to do about Tim Redding, but that’s a whole different blog post in itself.
