As reported by Neil Best of Newsday, the Mets had higher ratings than the Yankees for the first time in the 11 year history of SNY.
The Mets averaged a 2.73 rating with 263,500 viewers per game. The Yankees averaged a 2.23 rating and 217,765 viewers per game.
This marks a 4% increase in ratings from the 2015 season. The 2015 season’s ratings were a 19% increase over the 2014 season’s ratings.
According to Bloomberg, the Mets ratings this season were the highest they have been since 2008 when the Mets average household rating was 2.73.
The only surprise here is that it took this long. Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling are the best broadcast team in baseball, and with the Mets going to the postseason in consecutive seasons, it makes perfect sense that they would be the ratings leader.
