Over the past season, Amed Rosario went from a good prospect to an untouchable prospect. Along the way, he accumulated awards and recognition, including but not limited to him being named to Team World in the Future’s Game and his being named a Florida State League Mid-Season All Star. His latest accolade was Baseball America naming him the 2016 Florida State League’s Top Prospect.
Rosario played 66 games in the Florida State League hitting .309/.359/.442 with 10 doubles, eight triples, three homers, 40 RBI, and 13 stolen bases. He did this while playing a superb defensive shortstop with Baseball America saying he is a potential 70-grade defender on the 20-80 scouting scale.
Rosario’s tremendous play earned him a promotion to Double-A Binghamton where he was even better. In 54 games at Binghamton, Rosario hit .341/.392/.481 with 14 doubles, five triples, two homers, 31 RBI, and six stolen bases. Between St. Lucie and Binghamton, Rosario hit .324/.374/.459 with 24 doubles, 13 triples, five homers, 71 RBI, and 19 stolen bases. With a season like that coupled with his still untapped potential, Rosario is guaranteed to be protected by the Mets before the upcoming Rule 5 Draft.
It should come as no surprise that Rosario was named the Mets top prospect in the Mets Minors Midseason Top 50.
