The New York Mets announced on Thursday their plans to change Citi Field’s address to honor all-time ace Tom Seaver. According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the address will be 41 Seaver Way once New York City makes the change official.

They are also working on a statue, and Steven Marcus of Newsday says the plan is to unveil what it will look like some time in June.

“We’re going to be doing a permanent address and street name change to honor Tom,’’ vice president and chief revenue officer Lou DePaoli said. “It will be a permanent change to our home address.”

The current address of Citi Field is 123-01 Roosevelt Avenue, but the new name has not yet been disclosed. The Mets said the change requires approval from the New York City Mayor’s Office, a city council member and the Queens borough president. A spokesman said all parties are in accord, per Marcus.

DePaoli said that the street name change will be unveiled in a June 27 ceremony to help kick off the ’69 Mets anniversary weekend, as well as what the statue will look like.

“We’ve been working on exploring a potential statue option for a couple of years in coordination with the [Seaver] family,’’ DePaoli told Marcus. “We won’t be unveiling a statue this season. We will unveil the plans of what it will look like sometime on that weekend.”

Better late than never, I guess. With Seaver’s dementia diagnosis, the Mets are kicking it into high gear to honor him this season. Many, and by “many” I mean all Mets fans, thought there was not nearly enough Mets history included in the construction of Citi Field, a big omission being a Seaver statue.

Tom Seaver was one of the best pitchers of all time, going 311-205 with a career 2.86 ERA and 3640 strikeouts.
