The New York Mets announced that they will directly manage the Kingsport Mets (Appalachian League) business and facilities operations at Hunter Wright Stadium.
Mets Director of Florida Operations Paul Taglieri, in conjunction with Mets Vice President of Facilities Karl Smolarz, will oversee the operations in Kingsport – including corporate partnerships, ticket sales, and marketing. Taglieri will also continue his responsibilities at the Mets Florida headquarters in Port St. Lucie.
“Our decision to directly assume business and facilities operations of the K-Mets reinforces our commitment to Kingsport and our continued belief in the vitality of the franchise,” said Mets COO Jeff Wilpon.
“We’ve had a great relationship with Rick Spivey and Steve Harville of S & H Baseball over the past 17 years and thank them for their hard work and efforts in operating the club on our behalf and ensuring baseball stayed in Kingsport. We look forward to them continuing to be in involved with us in advisory capacities going forward.”
Between today’s big news, and these two recent minor league developments, it looks like the Wilpons are spending again and also investing in their minor league structure which is good to see and bodes well for developing our prospects in the future.
