Game Summary

Mets were able to snap a three game losing streak, beating the Nats 3-1 in ten innings. Tim Redding had a great start and the offense was able to score their just enough runs to get the win in extra innings.

Pitching

Tim Redding started the game and delivered a solid performance to start off the series against the Nationals. He only allowed one run in the fifth inning and was helped out by some timely defense whenever he got in trouble. It was nice to see Redding finally have a great start, especially against his former team. Redding pitched 6 innings and allowed just 1 run on 6 hits. He walked two and struck out 2 on 88 pitches.

Brian Stokes came into the game in the seventh and pitched a 1-2-3 inning while striking out one. Bobby Parnell got his first chance as the Mets official setup man and gave up a hit and an intentional walk, but got three outs to keep the game tied.

Sean Green continues to pitch well, going 1-2-3 in the ninth, and striking out one to send the game into extra innings. Green has retired 14 straight batters in his last four appearances.

Frankie Rodriguez pitched a perfect tenth inning and picked up his 15th save of the season. Frankie is now 15/15 on the season.

Hitting

The Mets scored a run in the second inning thanks to some poor defense by the Nats, and some poor umpiring when David Wright slid into third base and was called safe. That was it for the Mets offense until the tenth inning when Wright stroked a 2-run double in the gap to put the Mets in front 3-1.

The Mets baserunners had plenty of action at third base in the game. Carlos Beltran tried to leg out a triple and was thrown out. Wright looked to move to third on a sac fly and was called safe by the ump even though he appeared to be out. Wright also tried to get to third after a throwing error but was thrown out by Anderson Hernandez, and then was thrown out trying to steal third in the tenth inning.
