The Mets were swept in Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Dodgers, with Los Angeles winning the nightcap 3-0. The Mets previously blew a 2-0 lead in Game 1 and lost 5-2 in extras.

Despite a quality start from Jose Quintana, the club’s offense struggled, managing only three hits in the loss. Over the course of both games (19 innings), New York mustered just seven hits.

This defeat marked the sixth time the Mets have been shut out this season, dropping them to 10 games under .500 for the first time this year.

Quintana started for the Mets and allowed three runs on eight hits over six innings pitched, striking out three and giving up two Dodgers home runs.

The Dodgers took an early lead with a solo home run by Will Smith in the first inning. They added another run in the second when Miguel Rojas doubled, bringing home Andy Pages. Miguel Vargas extended the lead to 3-0 in the sixth with another solo home run. The lefty now has a 1-5 with a 5.06 ERA for the season.

Dedniel Núñez took over for Quintana on the bump in the seventh inning, tossing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts, one hit, and one walk. Josh Walker pitched the ninth, allowing just a single before inducing a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

Offensively, the Mets struggled, with Francisco Lindor, Mark Vientos, and Brandon Nimmo each managing a single. The team failed to get a runner into scoring position, leaving four men on base.

Stat of the Game

The Mets haven’t entered June 10 games under .500 since 2001, as Anthony DiComo pointed out. (That team ended up 82-80.)
