As the Mets winning streak came to a halt at five games last night after a 3-0 loss to the Washington Nationals, I couldn’t help wondering if Carlos Beltran would’ve made a difference. Out of curiosity I decided to look up how Beltran had performed against the Nationals in his career. I was surprised to learn they were one of the teams he enjoyed punishing with his bat throughout his career. His .959 OPS against the Nats is no doubt impressive and he’s hit 21 home runs against them, second only to the Philadelphia Phillies against whom he’s hit 25. Tron has scored 77 runs against the Washington Nationals, the most runs scored against any team he’s ever faced.
Beltran was the Mets’ best weapon against the National League East as a whole, torching them for 82 home runs, 286 RBIs, and 275 runs scored in 1,537 AB.
If you were to break that down to a typical 600 AB season, Beltran bats .286 with 33 HR, 114 RBI and 110 runs scored.
Against NL East foes, Beltran has posted a .384 OBP and a .927 OPS. Wow!
