As per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the Mets are still looking for a left handed reliever to add to their bullpen this off-season, but do not want to pay a premium price on another free agent.

Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen told reporters Thursday afternoon, “any areas where we could continue to balance our team out would be ideal, but we are going to have to wait and see how that plays out. If a left-handed deliver or two wether it’s on the free agent make or from trade we’ll explore.”

As far as the chances of adding another reliever on an eight-figure deal, Van Wagenen said “multiple high end arms in the bullpen is probably not part of the strategy at this point.”

This report comes after the Mets signed Familia to a three year $30 million deal in the earliest hour of Tuesday, marking the first big signing of the Brodie Van Wagenen era. This most likely cancels out the possibility of signing an Andrew Miller or Justin Wilson, as both are expected to exceed the $10 million mark.

The Mets have plenty of options on the free agent market for relief pitching, such as former Mets Jerry Blevins and Oliver Perez, and Xavier Cedeno.

The Mets also have in-house candidates, such as a move of Jason Vargas to the bullpen, which can open the door for more options and possibilities with roster moves and construction.
