Andy Martino of SNY reports that the Mets are still in on Starling Marte and that the team would likely send an MLB outfielder to the Pittsburgh Pirates in return.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network adds that names have been discussed between the two sides, but that it is unclear how far down the road these trade discussions currently are.

In terms of what MLB outfielder could be involved, the Mets currently have six in Michael Conforto, Brandon Nimmo, J.D. Davis, Jake Marisnick, Dominic Smith, and Yoenis Cespedes.

It is noteworthy that Jeff McNeil has been repeatedly labeled as the Mets’ third baseman for the 2020 season.

Marte, 31, recorded two outs above average in center field and hit .295/.342/.503 with 23 homers, 82 RBI, and 25 steals to give himself a 119 wRC+ and 3.0 fWAR in 2019.

The center fielder would make $11.5 million in 2020 and has a $12.5 million club option for the 2021 season.
